AMY BENSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Newmarket, N.H., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, November 22 to Sunday, November 24. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 7)
Benson won three individual events and contributed to four relay victories at the 2024 Trinity Tiger Invitational. She set a new team record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.18, and touched in 23.40 in the 50 free and 1:52.52 in the 200 freestyle. Swimming exhibition in the 100 butterfly, Benson went 56.45 to launch herself to third in program history. She was also third in the 100 back (58.13) and swam an exhibition time of 2:10.23 in the 200 back.
Benson anchored the 200 freestyle relay in 23.17, the 200 medley relay in 23.44, the 400 medley in 50.88, and the 400 free relay in 50.99.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Caitlyn Sauer-Newell of McMurry was the leading individual scorer for the War Hawks at the Trinity Tiger Invitational, breaking school records in the 200 IM (2:16.72) and 400 IM (4:52.03) with lifetime personal bests. Sauer-Newell also placed third in the 1650 where she dropped 17 seconds from her previous best time. Sophomore Ava Verret of St. Thomas showcased her versatility and strength in the pool, posting a time of 5:12.53 in the 400 IM (11th place), and clocking 1:15.18 in the 100 breast (14th place). First-year Julia Cox of Colorado College scored 91 points while competing in three A individual finals at the Centre College Invitational. She went a life time best in the 100 free (52.97) and posted two new season best times in the 50 free (24.97) and 200 free (1:57.07). Coix also competed in all 5 A relay finals. First-year Lexy Hulse of Austin College swam multiple personal bests this weekend at the Trinity Tiger Invite. She went 26.15 in the 50 free, dropping over four seconds from her previous PR. Hulse also finaled in the 100 breast at 1:09.53, and dropped two seconds in the 200 breast at 2:37.30. At the Delta State Thanksgiving Invite, junior Jessie Wright of University of the Ozarks split 25.97 on the 200 free relay, 58.86 anchoring the 400 medley relay, 25.85 anchoring the 200 medley relay and 57.26 anchoring the 400 free relay. Wright also posted a 5:34.95 in the 500 free, 4:59.79 in the 400 IM, 1:04.40 in the 100 back, and 2:17.96 in the 200 back. Junior Elise Samples of Southwestern had many season best and personal best swims at the Trinity Tiger Invitational, including in the 50 back off the 200 medley relay (27.50). Samples also posted times in the 200 IM (2:12.55), 100 fly (59.12 - PR), 100 back (58.01), 200 back (2:08.18) and her lead off time on the 400 free (53.71) was also a PR.
