Trinity Tallies Walk-Off Victory over Southwestern to Advance to SCAC Title Game

SEGUIN, Texas - A line-drive single through the left side from Trinity's Marina Delaluna gave the Tigers a 4-3 walk-off victory over Southwestern that put Trinity into the championship game of the 2024 SCAC Softball Championship. Official Website | Bracket l Postgame Interview | Photo Gallery | Tournament Stats 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams traded individual runs in the first inning. For the Pirates, Brooke Yanta drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the first before the Tigers tied the game in the bottom half on a Jordyn Williams RBI groundout. 
  • Josephine Koelewyn broke the tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI that scored Hannah Boudreaux from second base to make it 2-1, Trinity.
  • Southwestern tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth as a throwing error allowed Ashtyn Aldrete to score from second.
  • Trinity retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth. This time Boudreaux tallied an RBI single to center to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. 
  • With runners on the corners and one out in the top of the seventh, Southwestern received an RBI infield single from Riley Glenn-Millhouse to knot the game at 3-3. 
  • Boudreaux nearly hit a walk-off two-run home run as her deep drive to right field hit halfway up the wall and pushed the winning run to third base in the bottom of the seventh with just one out. 
  • Trinity's Marina Delaluna, facing a 2-2 count with the bases loaded in a 3-3 game, delivered a walk-off line drive single to left that was just off the glove of Southwestern short stop Riley Glenn-Millhouse. The single put the Tigers into the SCAC Championship game where they will have a rematch with top-seeded Texas Lutheran tomorrow afternoon.

NOTABLES

  • Trinity advances to the program's 15th SCAC tournament championship game and will look for its first title since 2007.
  • The Tigers improved to 52-35 in SCAC postseason play, including 6-5 against Southwestern.
  • The Pirates fall to 32-27 all-time in SCAC postseason play. 
  • Southwestern's Riley Glenn-Millhouse finished her SCAC Tournament with 10 hits, tied for the second most in a single tournamnet in league history. 
  • Trinity moves to 31-12 on the season.
  • Southwestern's Meghan McCarthy set a new SCAC Tournament record for walks with six, breaking the old mark of five which had been done nine seperate times, most recently in 2018 when both Andrea Hern of Southwestern and Wendy Gillet of Centenary accomplished the feat.
  • Southwestern ends the year with a record of 18-26.

UP NEXT

Trinity advances to the 2024 SCAC Championship game where it will take on top-seeded Texas Lutheran University tomorrow at 1 p.m. Southwestern is eliminated.
