KIONA HSIU OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Missouri City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, April 4. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 7)
Hsiu claimed her first individual title of the 2022-23 season Tuesday afternoon as her second-round 72 (E) vaulted her five places in the final round of the 2023 West Region Invitational, hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club.
Hsiu cleared the field by two strokes thanks to four birdies in her final round, including both par-fours on either side of her turn from the 18th pin to the first after opening the shotgun start from the par-five 13th, which marked her first birdie of the day and put her line to lead the field with a one-under pace on par-fives for the week.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Emma Luna of St. Thomas fired a 76 (+4) with four birdies and six pars to finish in a three-way tie for medalist honors at the Blinn Buccaneer Spring Invitational on Monday. Senior Ryleigh Erickson of Southwestern fired a final round 74 to finish tied for second at the West Region Invitational, which was hosted by Southwestern at Berry Creek Country Club. She finished with a two-round score of 152 (+8). Sophomore Kimberly Burch of Dallas led the Crusaders with a two-day total of 160 (+16) at the West Region Invitational. Her final round 78 moved her up three slots to finish tied for 11th in the 49-player field. First-year Emmie Rhude of Schreiner finished tied for 13th to lead the Mountaineers at the West Region Invitational. She shot rounds of 83 and 79 to finish at 162 (+18), and her final round 79 catapulted her five spots up the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Braydee Frederick of Texas Lutheran paced the Bulldogs at the West Region Invitational, finishing tied for 17th place with a two round total of 165 (+21).
