NEELY BURNS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, November 18 to Sunday, November 20. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 6)
Burns set three school records this weekend at the Tiger Invitational. She lowered her own IM records, taking the 200 IM in 2:03.23 and the 400 IM in 4:22.01. In the 200 breaststroke she went a third lifetime best time of 2:17.52 to break the school record by three seconds. All three victories were also NCAA B cut times. She also joined the program top 10 times list in the 200 back with a 2:07.17.
On the winning medley relays, Burns swam breaststroke legs of 30.35 and 1:04.54. She also led off the B 400 freestyle relay in 52.72 and split 24.63 on thh B 200 freestyle relay.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Kate Brush of Colorado College came away with a win, two NCAA B cuts, and three personal bests at the 13 team Phoenix Fall Classic at the University of Chicago. Brush was first in the 100 butterfly (55.43; NCAA cut and personal best), second in 200 butterfly (2:03.64; NCAA cut), and 12th in the 500 free (5:05.87; personal best). She also split a personal best 24.82 fly on the 200 medley relay, as well as strong splits on 800 free relay, 400 free relay, and 400 medley relay. Sophomore Faith Coffin of University of the Ozarks broke the school record in the 100 freestyle in 55.83 to win the B final at the Delta State Thanksgiving Invitational. First-year Elise Samples of Southwestern University finished second in both the 200 IM (2:10.01) and 200 back (2:06.41) and third in the 100 back (58.62). Among her four relay performances, she was part of the second-place 400 relay team, leading off with a 54.05.
