ELLIE HUGHES AND OLIVIA KIM OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, have been selected as the SCAC Women’s Doubles Team of the Week for matches played from Monday, February 3 to Sunday, February 9. SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 2
Hughes, a graduate student from Austin, Texas, and Kim, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., were key in helping the Tigers secure two more 7-0 shutout victories over Concordia (Texas) and UMHB this weekend. Playing at line two, the team put together a solid 6-4 win to clinch the opening doubles point for the Tigers. Then, against UMHB, they swept the number two doubles line. Overall this season, Hughes and Kim are 3-0.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Isabella Cepeda and graduate student Kayla Pena of Concordia (Texas) remained undefeated at line one doubles after a pair of matches against Trinity and Austin College. They posted a 6-0 victory over Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy of Trinity and then tallied a 6-1 win over Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle of Austin College. Junior Aimee Tran and sophomore Nataly Velasco of St. Thomas were in top form, finishing their doubles match with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles against LeTourneau. Their seamless coordination and aggressive style of play allowed them to dominate the match, and helped the Celts sweep doubles and earn the 5-2 team victory. First-year Lucia Moravek and first-year Amelia Karr of Colorado College paired to win No. 2 doubles match, 7-6(5), over Elena Oborocea and Alejandra Ramirez in the Tigers' 4-3 victory over Seward County Community College on Saturday. It clinched the all-important doubles point for CC.
