SARAH WILLIAMMEE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior right side from Denver, Colo., has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 1)
Last year's SCAC Tournament MVP, Williammee opened the 2022 campaign as the Trinity National Invitational MVP after the Tigers' senior right side led the attack with 33 kills on the weekend to post sweeps over the first, sixth and 24th-ranked teams in NCAA III. She collected a career-high 16 kills in the victory over No. 6 Berry College on a .448 hitting rate. The Denver-native averaged more than one block per set across the weekend's other three matchups including four blocks in the sweep of No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, NCAA III's reigning champion. The Tigers combined for 3.17 blocks per set on the weekend thanks to Williammee's efforts on the opposite pin.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Christina Kuras of Southwestern had a career-high 15 kills against Augsburg and is averaging over 3.80 kills per game in the first three matches of the season. She has also played well defensively, averaging 7.0 digs a game for the first three matches. Junior outside hitter Tanyse Moehrig of Texas Lutheran hit .330 with 39 kills (2.29 per set) to help lead the Bulldogs to a 5-0 mark the opening weekend of the 2022 season. Sophomore middle hitter Kaylie Stuteville of Colorado College averaged 2.23 kills per set and attacked at a .333 clip to lead the 14th-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 mark at their own Pikes Peak Challenge. She also contributed defensively, averaging an impressive 1.31 blocks per set, and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Senior middle blocker Paige Havel of St. Thomas totaled 44 total points in four matches, hitting .307 on the week and adding 17 total blocks. Her stellar gameplay led the Celts to a 3-1 start to their season. Senior outside hitter Jacquelyn Sotello of Schreiner averaged 3.11 kills per set and hit .377 in three matches to lead the Mountaineers opening weekend. Junior outside hitter Riley Abernethy of Austin College had a big weekend in multiple areas as the 'Roos opened the season 5-1, including earning five three-set sweeps to open the year. She averaged 2.16 kills with a .262 hitting percentage and also totaled 17 service aces, averaging 0.89 per-set to go along with 2.37 digs-per-set. Junior outside hitter Cassie Dyoub of Dallas was sharp in the Crusaders' opening weekend, leading the team in points and kills in all four of their matches. She was ruthlessly efficient against Regis, hitting at a clip of .474 with 10 kills, and led all players with 16 kills in their five set win over McMurry. Her defensive work is not to be overlooked either, as she was second only to Devin Henry on the team in digs this weekend with 38, as well as notching three block assists. Senior setter/right side Rachel Demerjian of Centenary returned to the court this past weekend for the Ladies after missing the entire 2021 season due to an injury, and picked up where she left off throughout her superb career at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament. Demerjian totaled 43 assists, 23 digs, five aces, and three kills in Centenary's three matches.
