JOSETTE GURULE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Santa Fe, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Gurule set a new PR with her time of 14:41.6 that placed her 16th at the season-opening University of the Incarnate Word Twilight event on Friday night. Gurule set the pace for Trinity, leading to a 20-second team improvement at the same course and event from last year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Chloe Weathers of University of the Ozarks propelled the Eagles to claim the top rank among D3 teams at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday. Weather's exceptional performance secured her the second position among non-D1 runners, clocking in at 19:53.92 and finishing 34th overall in an event attended by eight D1 programs. Junior Savanna Danner of McMurry, whose team was the only D3 in the event, finished in eighth place in a time of 15:26.1 on the wet and muddy 4K course at Abilene Christian's Naimadu Classic. Junior Emma Etzler of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with her 34th place finish, eighth amongst DIII runners, at the Southwestern Stormy Seas Opener. Her time of 21:04.9 was a 54 second improvement from her performance on this course last season. First-year Andrea Eckermann of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the Southwestern Stormy Seas Opener 5K, finishing 42nd overall with a time of 21:37.36. First-year Allison Leonesio of Dallas placed 11th at the Nicole Leman XC Invitational, posting a time of 22:30.7 in her first collegiate meet. Sophomore Ashley Rivera of Concordia (Texas) shaved over two minutes off her time from the Stormy Seas Opener at 21:52.19 compared to 23:58.4 last season.
