JOSEPHINE KOELEWYN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Reno, Nev., has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16. SCAC Softball Release - Week 6

Koelewyn led the Trinity softball team to a 4-1 record last week, splitting a doubleheader with the University of Rochester (NY) and sweeping a three-game SCAC series against Ozarks. Koelewyn pitched in four of the team's five games this week, going 3-0 with an ERA of 0.84 in 16.2 innings of work. She finished with two complete games, allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven batters. Koelewyn went the distance in her first game of the week, allowing one run on five hits in a 9-1 victory over Rochester. She pitched 6.0 innings in the game one win over Ozarks, allowing one run on three hits and recording four strikeouts. The week finished with Koelewyn getting another complete-game victory in the 8-0 win that clinched the series sweep of Ozarks, allowing just three hits and striking out two batters. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Alexus Johnson of Austin College tossed a gem to secure the ‘Roos’ their first win of the season, throwing a complete game shutout in a 13-0 win over Dallas, and in two appearances over the weekend allowed just a single unearned run in 5.2 innings of work. Johnson scattered five hits on the weekend. Sophomore Kylie Kirk of Concordia (Tex.) put up another dominant performance in the circle last week for the Tornados. In Concordia’s 13-0 win over Centenary, Kirk tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits over five while striking out five in a shutout victory. First-year Kristiana Guerra of Dallas turned in a strong week in the circle for the Crusaders, picking up two wins and securing a save in four appearances over 16 innings of work. Guerra allowed just seven earned runs and struck out 18 to post a 3.06 ERA while walking just two to post a 1.38 WHIP over the week. Junior Anyssia Mendoza of Schreiner picked up a win in the Mountaineers’ 3-2 victory over Howard Payne in non-conference action last week. Mendoza went seven innings, allowing just two earned runs, scattering five hits and striking out a remarkable 14 batters in the win. Sophomore Sophia Ytuarte of Southwestern picked up both wins in the Pirates’ conference series win over McMurry at home last weekend. In 9.1 innings of work, Ytuarte scattered 12 hits, allowed just five earned runs to post a 3.75 ERA and struck out two batters. Ytuarte didn’t allow a single walk and posted an impressive 1.29 WHIP in league play over the week. Junior Allison Hughes of St. Thomas went 1-1 in the circle last week in SCAC action against league leading Texas Lutheran. In helping hand the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, Hughes tossed a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out four to pick up the win. Senior Amanda White of Texas Lutheran appeared in all five of the Bulldogs games this week going 2-0 while also picking up two saves in the Bulldogs 4-1 week of action while maintaining a 2.06 ERA. With the saves, White tied Sydney Ouellette for most saves in a season in program history and moved into third in program history in the category.
