NEELY BURNS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, January 6 to Saturday, January 7. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 9)
Burns was a part of five wins in two days this weekend over the Tigers' California road trip. Individually, she was undefeated against Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran, winning a tight race in the 200 free, touching in 1:57.75. The first-year followed that up with a 2:23.25 to win the 200 breaststroke and a 4:29.82 to take the 400 IM. Burns also split 1:07.68 on the opening 400 medley relay to help the Tigers finish third.
On Friday against Occidental, she won the 100 IM (1:01.09), was on the winning mixed 400 freestyle relay, and posted a 32.06 in the 50 breaststroke.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Madeline Vacula oif Centenary continued her stellar season with three more individual wins on Saturday at Millsaps College in a non-conference dual meet. Vacula claimed three individual wins for the second meet in a row and now has an impressive 11 this season and 18 in her career. This past weekend she won the 1000 free (11:18.34), the 100 back (1:05.59), and the 200 IM in a season-best time of 2:26.42. She teamed with three others to place second in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming a time of 2:07.60.
