JOZIE DHAYER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior setter from Houston, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 9 through Sunday, September 15. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 3)
Dhayer led the 11th-ranked Tigers to a 2-1 weekend record at the Trinity National Invitational, with the team finishing second overall at the tournament. Dhayer led Trinity to a team hitting percentage of .305 for the weekend, while averaging 5.62 assists per set as a three-rotation setter (averaging 5.14 assists/set for the season). She also added five kills and 25 digs, posting double-doubles in both of the Tiger victories.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior setter Shavonne Respondek of Texas Lutheran recorded a double-double in all four matches of the Ohio Wesleyan/Bishop Invitational, and has now recorded six straight double-doubles and nine in ten matches in 2024. For the weekend, the senior averaged 5.06 assists and 4.19 digs per set as the Bulldogs went 2-2. Senior setter Annie Steger of Colorado College averaged 11.7 assists per set at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament. She collected 46 assists and a season-high 17 digs against the host school, UW-Eau Claire. Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry averaged 4.62 assists per set to lead the War Hawks to a 2-2 weekend. The junior posted her second triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs in Friday's 3-1 loss to Millsaps. Senior setter Kaitlyn Ruiz of Concordia (Texas) posted near identical double-double numbers in the Tornados doubleheader sweep of Howard Payne on Friday. In match one, Ruiz led all players with 22 assists and 16 digs in four sets. In the second match, she collected another game-high 23 assists with another 16 digs in five sets. First-year setter Gaby Torres of Schreiner had 21 assists (5.25 per set) in the Mountaineers' 3-1 loss on Friday to NAIA Our Lady of the Lake. She also added 12 digs and two kills.
