ASHLYN MILTON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Amarillo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 7 through Sunday, February 13. (Women's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 14)
Milton led 20th-ranked Trinity to three home victories last week, clinching the top seed at the SCAC Tournament at the end of the month, and remaining undefeated in league play this season. She averaged 19.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.0 assists per game over the busy week, shooting 52.4% (22-for-42) from the field and a red-hot 60.0% (12-of-20) from three-point range. She accomplished all of that despite averaging just over 26 minutes/game for the week.
In Tuesday's win over Schreiner, Milton scored a career-high 33 points in just 24 minutes, hitting 12-of-17 overall from the floor and an outstanding 7-for-8 from beyond the arc. She tied the school record for three-pointers made in a game, leading Trinity to a 122-75 win that broke the Tiger record for most points in a game. Milton finished her week with another strong performance, scoring 17 points to go with eight rebounds and five steals in Saturday's win over Southwestern.
Junior guard Anna Fanelli of Colorado College averaged 12.5 assists per game and recorded a 6.25-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio while leading the Tigers to a pair of road victories last week. During Friday's 70-54 win at Centenary, Fanelli dished out 14 assists to break the school and SCAC records for assists in a single season, matching the previous mark of 192 set by former CC All-American Melanie Auguste on a three-pointer by Audrey Bayston with 5:21 remaining in the season quarter. She then put her name atop the chart 1:27 later on Rosie Braley's layup with 3:38 to play before halftime. During Sunday's 60-40 victory at Austin College, Fanelli recorded 11 assists to reach double-digits for the tenth time this season and the eighth time in the last 11 games. The junior point guard finished the weekend with 211 assists this season and became just the third player in program history to record 400 or more in her career. Senior forward Morgan Rodriguez of Texas Lutheran set a career-high with 22 points against Dallas to guide the Bulldogs to an overtime victory. First-year guard Alana Jones of Centenary scored a career-high 15 points in the Ladies' 61-53 home victory over St. Thomas on Senior Day on Sunday. She added seven rebounds in 30 minutes of play. First-year guard Demauria Miles of Schreiner averaged 20.5 points and shot 50.0 percent (16-32) from the field as the Mountaineers split a pair of games against Trinity and Dallas. First-year guard Adryan Alvarez of Dallas averaged 17.7 points per game while shooting 45.5% from the floor, including a robust 50.0 percent (8-16) from three-point range. Senior forward Taylor Carney of Southwestern averaged 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in three games last week.
