Mendez went undefeated over the weekend in singles play as 10th-ranked Trinity went 1-2 against nationally-ranked teams at the Stag-Hen Invitational in California. Mendez brought the Tigers split the first four singles matches off the court in a 5-2 loss to #19 Johns Hopkins, winning 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 at line three. He then scored a 4-6, 7-5, 3-0 (retired) win at line three in the team's 5-2 loss to #29 Pomona-Pitzer. Moving up to #2 singles against #24 NC Wesleyan didn't faze Mendez as he earned a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 win to vault the Tigers to a 7-0 shutout.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Shu-Lun Chang of Dallas went 2-0 in conference play this weekend. On Friday, he pulled off a come-from-behind 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 victory at the No. 1 line against Ozarks, and the following day gave the 'Roos the blues with a 6-2, 6-0 victory to spark a run to a 7-0 over Austin College. First-year Zachary Hanson of Ozarks posted a pair of wins during the week at the No. 3 position. Against Sterling College, Hanson won 2-6, 6-4, (10-7), and the next day, he posted a 6-1, 6-2 win against Gabriel Alfaro from Dallas. First-year Lenny Lehmitz of Colorado College posted a 3-2 singles record in five matches during CC's spring break trip to California last week. He opened the week by posting CC's lone victory against No. 20 Redlands, defeating Zac Nakajima, 7-6(5), 7-5, at the No. 6 position. He also won the No. 5 match over Dylan Duong of Whittier, 6-1, 6-3, and Praneet Varade of UC Santa Cruz, 6-4, 7-6(11).
