EMILY MIXON OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outside hitter from Woodville, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 2 through Sunday, October 8. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 6)
Mixon has been an instrumental force behind the Bulldogs six-match sweep streak - leading the way with 39 kills over four matches (3.25 per set) on an impressive .405 hitting percentage, which included a .441 mark in conference play. Mixon paced the Bulldogs in kills in three of the team's four matches over the course of last week, and was one off leading in all four matches.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year right side Courtney Pope of Trinity led the 11th-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a pair of non-conference wins last week, defeating both Concordia (Texas) and Hardin-Simmons on Wednesday evening. Pope enjoyed an error-free week on 36 attempts, finishing with 17 (2.43/set) kills and a .472 hitting percentage for the Tigers. She also piled up seven total blocks (1.00/set). Pope finished with nine kills and a .474 hitting percentage in the win over Hardin-Simmons, adding four blocks to total 11 points for the match. Senior middle blocker Laynee Beam of St. Thomas had a great outing as the Celts went 3-0 in SCAC play on the week. In those matches, Beam totaled 28 total kills at 3.00 points per set, and posted an impressive .338 hitting percentage. She also tacked on four service aces with five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Carly Berkman of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 3-0 mark in conference play, notching 22 kills on the weekend and averaging 2.2 kills per set. Graduate student Brooke Byer of Schreiner had 14 kills, 25 digs and added two blocks as the Mountaineers defeated McMurry, 3-1, in the team's only action of the week.
