FAITH COLDEWEY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Floresville, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 23 through Sunday, September 29. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 5)
Coldewey had 53 digs (7.57 per set) as the Bulldogs went 2-0 with conference wins over Concordia (Texas) and Schreiner. Her 27 digs against Concordia on Friday are the most in a three set match this season. Coldewey currently leads the SCAC in digs, averaging 5.69 per set.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College had 22 digs for an average of 7.33 digs-per-set in her team's only competition of the week. Senior libero/defensive specialist Kara Spice of St. Thomas had a total of 44 digs (5.50 digs per set) as the Celts swept McMurry and Dallas in conference play this weekend. Junior libero Jenna Rodriguez of Trinity recorded 22 total digs (4.40 digs/set) in the Tigers' sweeps of Schreiner and Concordia this weekend. To go along with her 27 receptions, Rodriguez had zero reception errors on the weekend and moved into the top 10 in the SCAC in total digs (181). Sophomore defensive specilist/libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers with 22 digs in a pair of conference sweeps last weekend. Senior libero Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern collected fifteen digs in the Pirate's win over Schreiner. Nedrow served up three aces against the Mountaineers and also assisted five Pirate hitters averaging 1.67 assists per set.
