NOELANI AJEL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Cibolo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 8)

Ajel delivered three dominant performances on the backline for the Bulldogs in lifting TLU to a 2-0-1 record on the week, highlighted by shutout wins over non-conference foe Southwestern on the road on Tuesday and Schriner at home on Sunday. Ajel and the Bulldog defense allowed just 14 shots on target over three matches last week, while allowing just one goal. On the season, Ajel and the Bulldog defense have allowed just three goals in conference play, tied for the best in the SCAC with a  0.43 GAA in league action.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

First-year goalkeeper Kieran McFarland of Austin College earned her fourth career shutout on Sunday in a 4-0 win over Dallas. McFarland finished the match with one save and lowered her season’s GAA to an SCAC best 0.46.  Junior defender Karis Hickey of Concordia (TX) anchored a defensive effort for the Tornados last weekend that allowed just one goal, posted one shutout and allowed just 10 shots on target in going 1-0-1 on the week. Hickey also jumped in offensively in Concordia’s 4-1 win over Schreiner on Friday, scoring her third goal of the season. First-year Kinsey Fulks of LeTourneau made three saves in the YellowJackets’, 1-0, shutout win over Dallas on Friday. It marked the program’s eighth shutout of the season, breaking the program record. Senior midfielder Alexis Lira of McMurry controlled the defensive midfield in lifting the War Hawks to a 0-0-2 record last week in league play, highlighted by a 0-0 draw against Concordia on Sunday. Lira and the War Hawk defense allowed just three shots on target all week. Junior goalkeeper Kylie Soich of St. Thomas led the Celts to a pair of key SCAC wins over the weekend, including a shutout victory over Ozarks on Sunday. Soich recorded five saves on the weekend and lowered her season GAA to 0.61, second best in the SCAC.
