ANNIE STEGER OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior setter from Half Moon Bay, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 14 through Sunday, October 20. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 8)
In the battle for the top spot in the SCAC Blue Division, Steger had 50 assists in CC's four-set victory over Austin College, averaging 12.50 assists per set. She added 26 in the sweep over Dickinson, and finished the weekend averaging 10.86 assists per set. Steger, who also had five aces and 21 digs on the weekend, helped the team hit .354 vs. Dickinson and .261 for the weekend.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore setter Kendall DeRivel of Trinity was the Tigers' top setter during their two wins this weekend. On the weekend, DeRivel totaled 51 assists and 7.29 assists per set (season average is 5.59). Against Schreiner, Kendall had 19 total assists (6.33 assists per set) and against TLU, her best match of the weekend, DeRivel had 32 total assists for a staggering 8.00 assists per set. Kendall was also solid defensively, as she totaled 23 digs in the two matches. Senior setter Claire Romo of Southwestern averaged 5.13 assists per set in eight sets played in the Pirates' two conference victories this weekend. Romo went for twenty-five assists in the Pirates' 3-2 victory over Texas Lutheran and sixteen assists in their win over Concordia. Romo also tallied twenty digs in the two games. Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry averaged 7.00 assists per set (28 total) in the War Hawks' 3-1 victory over Dallas to improve to 5-4 in the SCAC Blue Division. Senior setter Shavonne Respondek of Texas Lutheran had 25 assists in both of the Bulldogs' conference matches this past week, averaging 5.56 per set. She also posted a double-double in both match with 17 and 12 digs, respectively against Trinity and Southwestern.
