J.J. SLACK OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior left-handed pitcher from Liberty, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 10 through Sunday, April 16. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Slack was instrumental in helping lift Southwestern into sole possession of first-place in the SCAC standings heading down the final few weeks of the regular season. He tossed a complete game in the Pirates 2-1 win in the series rubber match against Trinity. Slack scattered just five hits over nine innings, allowed just one earned run and struck out 10 Tigers. It marked the second time this season Slack has recorded 10 or more strikeouts and is currently second in the SCAC with 58 on the season. His efforts helped lift Southwestern to its first series win over Trinity since 2012 and secured the first time the Pirates have taken the regular season series against the Tigers since 2000.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior right-handed pitcher Parker Primeaux of Centenary had a big weekend on the mound for the Gents, earning a decision in every contest of a three-game series sweep over Schreiner, picking up a win in two saves. In the series finale, Primeaux went 7.2 innings and allowed just one earned run. In total on the week, he threw 134 pitches, faced 37 batters, scattered just seven hits and struck out five batters with a 0.70 ERA. Senior right hander Chris Parsons of St. Thomas tossed five innings, giving up just one hit and two earned runs, while striking out nine to help lift the Celts to an 8-4 win over Dallas last Friday. Senior Blade Strzelczyk of Texas Lutheran posted his second career complete game in the Bulldogs’ 11-1 win over Austin College last Friday. He pitched all seven innings striking out a career-high 10 batters while allowing one run on six hits. Sophomore right hander Jack Martinez of Trinity posted a 1.93 ERA and recorded 10 strikeouts in just 4.2 innings for the Tigers last week, including eight strikeouts in a 3.2-inning save in the series opener at No. 24 Southwestern.
