BRIAN ARMIJO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets run from Friday, October 6 through Saturday, October 7. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 6)

Armijo galloped into history as he broke the Southwestern men's 8k record this past Saturday at the DBU Old Glory Gallup. His time of 25:20 bested the time of Pirate great Jameson Otto who set the previous record in 2006. The new record is about a 70 second PR for Armijo.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Thomas Melina-Rabb of Trinity led the way for the Tigers at the OLLU invite, posting a 35-second PR with a time of 26:12 in the event. He placed ninth individually in a field primarily composed of NAIA and DII athletes and was the top DIII individual. Sophomore Lucas Falcon of Texas Lutheran came away with a 30 second personal best to finish in 20th place with a 26:56.1 at the OLLU invite. His first sub-27 minute 8k earns him the fifth spot on the TLU all-time performance list. Senior Nico Walz of Dallas ran an 8k PR 28:24 to shatter his old PR by almost a minute at the Old Glory Gallop hosted by Dallas Baptist University. Walz competed against 295 athletes from all associations and divisions.
