LUKE HATCHER OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 5 through Sunday, February 11. SCAC Men's Baskeetball Release (Week 14)
Hatcher led the Pirates to an SCAC split at home last weekend, highlighted by a 70-67 win over St. Thomas on Friday night. It marked the first win over the Celts since St. Thomas joined the SCAC prior to the 2019-20 season. Hatcher averaged 25.5 points per game on an impressive 63 percent shooting, highlighted by his fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 27-points and 12 rebounds in the win over St. Thomas. In addition to his 25.5 points per game, Hatcher produced an impressive 9.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 assists, while shooting 50 percent from three and 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Quentin Beverly of Centenary led the Gents over the weekend with a 23-point scoring performance shooting 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from the field, 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the charity stripe and 75 percent (3-of-4) beyond the arc in the 82-74 victory over Texas Lutheran on the road. He added 14 points (4-of-9) from the field after defeating a motivated Southwestern team, 85-64, on the road last Saturday. Beverly added 2.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Sophomore guard Nick Anderson of St. Thomas led the Celts last weekend, averaging 22.5 points per game, to lead the Celts to a 1-1 record. Anderson added 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 2.5 steals per game. Senior guard Tristan Dick of Austin College led the ‘Roos in the final two home games of the year, averaging 16.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks-per-game while shooting 48 percent from the field, 50 percent from three point range, and 83 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Dinari Boykin of Colorado College led the Tigers to a key SCAC road split last weekend, highlighted by an 80-74 win over Schreiner on Friday night. Boykin averaged 16.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, highlighted by his 19-point, six rebound, three steal effort in the win over the Mountaineers. First-year forward Teddy Tapken of Texas Lutheran posted back-to-back double-digit scoring performances last weekend, highlighted by 17 in a loss to St. Thomas. Tapken averaged 13.5 points on 52.2 precent shooting and added 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. Junior guard Dylan Mackey of Schreiner averaged 17.5 points on 40 percent shooting, including 45.5 percent from three. Mackey also dished out 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game. Senior guard Tanner Brown of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of league victories over the weekend, clinching the SCAC Regular Season Championship with Sunday’s win over Colorado College. Brown led the Tigers with 17 points in the road win over Schreiner on Tuesday, hitting 7-for-8 at the foul line to help Trinity sweep the regular season series. He came back on Sunday for a Senior Day celebration to remember, picking up 12 points and eight rebounds to go with four steals. His biggest points came in the final minute, though, as he hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds to play that put Trinity up 58-57 and turned out to be the game-winning shot.
