WACO, Texas – Second-seeded Southwestern University advanced to its 10th-straight semifinal after securing a 4-0 win over seventh-seeded St. Thomas on Friday afternoon in quarterfinal action at the SCAC Men’s Tennis Championship from the Waco Tennis & Fitness Center. The Pirates held a 1-0 lead going into singles action after Bernardo Clemente and Parth Patel posted a 6-0 win at the No. 2 line and Oscar Roy and Ashton Ellis won 6-2 at the top doubles line.
Roy and Ellis also secured points in singles at the top and third line respectively. Ellis cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win to bank the first point in singles, while his doubles partner Roy was impressive with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Nathan Qi assured the Pirates of 10th straight trip into the semifinals by earning a 7-5, 7-5 hard fought win at the No. 2 singles line.
The Pirates improved to 15-6 on the season, while St. Thomas closes the year with a 7-8 overall record.

Southwestern advances to the semifinal round tomorrow where the Pirates will take on the No. 3 seed Colorado College. The two teams played the final regular season weekend at Southwestern where the Pirates emerged victorious, 5-2. Tomorrow will mark the third time in the last four SCAC Tournament’s that Southwestern and Colorado College have faced off, with the Pirates winning the two previous meetings (2024, 2022).
