JACK VILES OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from Scottsdale, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 12th through Sunday, September 18th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Viles was outstanding in the Pirates lone match last week, a 1-1 draw against the reigning SCAC Tournament Champions, St. Thomas. He posted a career-high 14 saves, including turning away a penalty shot in the 56th minute to keep the Pirates within one goal at the time. Viles added to his league lead in saves and now has 37 on the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Sam Borchalli of Centenary made two saves in a scoreless tie against ETBU last Friday before registering a season-high six saves in a 1-1 tie versus LeTourneau on Sunday. Freshman goalkeeper Jasper Broad of Colorado College made three huge saves in his first full game at CC in the Tigers’ 3-1 win over Trinity last Sunday. It marked the win over Trinity since 2019 for Colorado College. Junior defender Jack Manke of Texas Lutheran played a big role protecting the back line in both games last week for the Bulldogs that allowed just two goals and posted a shutout in a 4-0 win over McMurry on Sunday. Manke also got involved on that offensive side of the ball with an assist in TLU’s win. Senior defender JonConnor Rule of Trinity played all 90 minutes of the Colorado College, limiting the Tigers to just six total shots.
