MADISON VELA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Odem, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 13 through Sunday, March 19. SCAC Softball Release - Week 6
Vela was critical to lifting Southwestern to just its second perfect 3-0 start in SCAC play since 2016 and first sweep over Trinty since 2019 as she dazzled in the circle. She went 2-0 in league play, tossing a pair of seven inning complete games, including one shutout. In 14 innings of work against the Tigers, Vela scattered just nine hits and didn’t allow a single earned run, while striking out three. In total for the week, Vela posted a 2-0 record, tossed 18.2 innings, striking out six and posting a 1.50 ERA.
