EMILY MARKS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior rightside from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 30 through Sunday, October 6. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 6)
Marks averaged 3.89 kills and 4.00 points per set and totaled thirty-five kills with a .247 hitting percentage as Southwestern swept a pair of SCAC matches against Schreiner and Concordia (Texas). In the Pirates' 3-1 win over Concordia, Marks put up a season-high twenty kills on forty-six total attempts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior rightside TJ Folse of Austin College had a big weekend, leading the 'Roos to a pair of conference sweeps over St. Thomas and Colorado College to claim sole possession of first place in the SCAC Blue Division. Folse averaged 2.67 kills-per-set with a .368 hitting percentage, adding 4.67 digs-per-set in the two matches. Folse had eight kills in each match, wrapping up the weekend with a .467 hitting percentage in a huge win over the Tigers. Junior outside hitter Reagan Whatley of Trinity led the 21st-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 2-1 record last weekend in New York, including a 3-1 win over #20 NYU in the weekend finale on Saturday. Whatley finished the weekend with a pair of double-doubles, collecting 10 kills and 12 digs against Smith, and pairing 18 kills with 14 digs against Ithaca. She hit .302 for the weekend, highlighted by a .378 hitting percentage against Ithaca on Friday night. Senior outside hitter Brylie Nedd of Texas Lutheran had 12 kills (4.00 per set) and hit .444 in the Bulldogs' lone match of the week, a 3-0 sweep of Huston-Tillotson. She also had two service aces to lead the Bulldogs to their 10th win of the season. Senior outside hitter Jacee Dinkins of McMurry hit .391 and averaged 3.33 kills per set (10 total) as the War Hawks picked up a 3-0 conference sweep of Dallas in their only match of the week. Sophomore outside hitter Giana Hilliard of Schreiner had 13 kills (2.60 per set) and hit .244 as the Mountaineers dropped a tough 3-2 five-setter to #17 Southwestern, the team's only match of the week. She also added 14 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Alexis Bodunrin of St. Thomas averaged 3.22 kills per set and added 11 digs and seven blocks to lead the Celts to a 2-1 week in conference play.
