JULIA CHEW OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior setter from Cypress, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, November 4 through Sunday, November 10. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 11)
Chew led the Bulldogs with 71 assists on the weekend (5.92 per set) including finishing one off her career-high with 30 against Colorado College in a 3-2 TLU win. The senior recorded three double-doubles on the weekend as Texas Lutheran finished the final conference weekend with a 3-0 mark.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry posted her third triple-double of the season when she posted 12 kills, 33 assists and 16 digs in the War Hawks' 3-2 victory over Howard Payne on Friday. Her three triple-doubles is tops in the conference and ninth nationally. Junior setter Annika Flora of Southwestern went for 63 total assists in the Pirates three straight wins over conference opponents last weekend. Over the three games she averaged 5.73 assists per set, and was crucial on the defensive end for the Pirates in their five set match with McMurry where she dug 14 balls as well as served two aces. Sophomore setter Kendall DeRivel of Trinity led the 18th-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 3-0 record to close out the regular season. DeRivel finished with 55 total assists (5.50 per set) to pace Trinity, helping the team to a .275 hitting percentage. She also had eight service aces and compiled a team-best 26 digs for the weekend.Senior setter Annie Steger of Colorado College averaged 9.92 assists per set as the Tigers went 2-1 on the weekend. She added a team-high 18 digs versus Concordia and had 37 over the weekend. Senior setter Kendall Howard of St. Thomas displayed impressive setting skills this week, recording 59 assists across three matches, averaging 5.36 assists per set. Her standout performances included 15 assists in a sweep over Schreiner and a season-high 25 assists against Texas Lutheran. She closed the week with 19 assists in the win over Concordia (Texas).
